Fuji TV will air a sequel to the 2005 drama series, "Oniyome Nikki." The new series, titled "Oniyome Nikki Ii Yu da na," will be broadcast on Tuesdays at 10:00pm.
Arisa Mizuki and Gori return as the comedic couple from the first series. This time, the rest of the cast includes Yuri Ebihara, Noboru Takachi, Naomi Kawashima, and Yoko Nogiwa.

Broadcaster NTV will be airing a 2-night "Shakespeare Series" drama special this spring. The series will adapt "Romeo & Juliet" and "King Lear" to modern times.
In the "Romeo & Juliet" adaptation, idol Hideaki Takizawa will play a garbage collector whose father (Shinji Yamashita) becomes a murder suspect, while popular actress Masami Nagasawa plays the daughter of the detective (Tomokazu Miura) involved in the case.
"King Lear" will be transformed into the story of a supermarket manager (Toshiyuki Nishida) and his three daughters. Mao Inoue will also star in the drama.

Actress Yoshino Kimura will play the role of famous singer Teresa Teng in an upcoming drama special about her life, titled "Teresa Teng Monogatari: Watashi no Ie wa Yama no Mukou." The drama will air in the spring on TV Asahi, in honor of Teng's thirteenth death anniversary. This will be the first Japanese drama based on Teng's life.
Teng debuted as a singer in Taiwan at the age of 14 in 1967. She made her debut in Japan in 1974, and throughout her career she had many hits in both Chinese and Japanese. On May 8, 1995, Teng suddenly died from an apparent asthma attack while on a trip in Thailand.
The special will cover Teng's life between 1974 and 1995. Currently, 11 of her songs are planned to be used in the drama. Kimura is taking lessons to be able to sing in Chinese.

Koki Tanaka of popular group KAT-TUN has been chosen for his first lead role in a drama series. "Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go" will air in the spring on TBS, though a specific time slot has not yet been announced.
Tanaka will play a college student named Ichiro Tanaka, nicknamed "Tetsu" because he is a railfan (one who is interested in railroads). Tanaka admits that he was worried when he first heard about the story, but changed his mind after reading the script.
The series will be produced by Aki Isoyama and written by Hiroshi Hashimoto. The drama is described as an original love comedy.

Fuji TV will broadcast a drama special titled "Mama ga Ryouri wo Tsukuru Riyuu" ("Why Does Mama Cook?"). Talento Masami Hisamoto and actress Ryoko Hirosue will co-star.
Hisamoto plays a mangaka with a younger husband and a child. She is not very good at cooking, and her diet consists of very simple meals. Hirosue, on the other hand, is an iconic and charismatic culinary writer with a refined taste. The drama will focus on their clash of values when they end up working together to create a gourmet manga.
The drama will air at 9:00pm on March 3. The rest of the cast includes Ikkei Watanabe, Ryuta Sato, Shingo Katsurayama, and Takehiko Ono.

The popular 2005 Korean movie "Watashi no Atama no Naka no Keshigomu" (also known as "A Moment to Remember" and "The Eraser in My Head") will be remade into a drama special this spring. NTV will broadcast the special in its "Kayo Drama Gold" time slot (Tuesday 9:00pm). Kyoko Fukada and Mitsuhiro Oikawa will play the lead roles.
The movie itself was a remake of the 2001 Japanese drama series "Pure Soul ~Kimi ga Boku wo Wasuretemo~." The original story involves a young couple who discover that the wife suffers from Alzheimer's disease. In that version, the couple is a company president's daughter and a carpenter. In the upcoming remake, the couple is a female art school student and an artist.
The special will be directed by Marehiro Karaki, who also directed "Pure Soul." The rest of the cast includes Hiroshi Fuse, Yoshiko Tanaka, and Akiyoshi Nakao as the wife's parents and brother. Eiichiro Funakoshi will also make a special appearance as a doctor.

Actor Kenichi Matsuyama (known for his recent role as L in the Death Note movies) will be starring in a TV drama series this spring. The series is based on the "Sexy Voice and Robo" manga written by Iou Kuroda. Matsuyama will play a young otaku who likes robots.
The drama will begin in April, airing in NTV's Tuesday 10:00pm time slot. This block is currently part of NTV's 2-hour "Kayo Suspense Gekijo" drama program, but the station will be eliminating it, choosing to replace it with a new variety show at 9:00, followed by the 10:00 drama time slot.

It was announced on Sunday that a sequel to last year's "Kuitan" drama series is in the works. "Kuitan 2" will again feature Noriyuki Higashiyama as the gluttonous detective nicknamed "Kuitan," but this time he will also face another challenge: love. Incidentally, the announcement comes not long after it was discovered that Higashiyama is currently dating actress Rina Uchiyama.
"Kuitan 2" will begin in April, running in the Saturday 9:00pm time slot.
